Tesco special offers are out today. And it’s meat week. Well no, not officially, but they’ve got some decent offers on all things meaty, fishy and er, chicken-y.
Starting with their half price dinner, which is just half price spuds, wine and a roasting meat. Except this week it’s not – hoorah! – round roast. It’s a leg of lamb, reduced to just €6.24 / kg, but only until Sunday, so I’ll be toddling in after work on Friday to make sure I have mine bought in time. Other meat offers include the usual 3 for €9 applying to chicken fillets, pork chops, salmon fillets and mince. There’re also €6 striploin steaks, €6 1.9kg chickens, and 33% off the never-far-away round roast.
I’ll definitely be taking Tesco up on their fish offers this week – namely the half price salmon, which is now just €8 /kg. My experience of this offer is that it doesn’t last long however, so get in early and then bat the eyelashes to get them to skin it, section and bag it for the freezer. It’s a little perk, but I’m grateful for it nonetheless. There is also half price mackerel, which is just €3.72 /kg, and 33% off smoked cod loin, which at €13.99 are still out of my price range, but they look delicious, so maybe I could afford just two little farty slivers…frozen seafood such as prawns and mussels are 3 for 2, although you’ll prize my Aldi frozen prawns from my cold, dead hands.
It’s also 3 for 2 on all the usual pancake accoutrements, such as Nutella, maple syrup, flour, etc. etc. Oh, and half price free range eggs, at 99c per half dozen.
There are lots of half price / BOGOF offers as well this week, the former including fresh Emma Giordani tortellini (delicious, remains to be seen if the new Aldi range will oust them as my favourite) at just €1.50 per pack and various hams, yoghurts and pizzas. BOGOF offers include Nestle Cereals, household products, Tayto LFCs (which are great except if you eat two packs because you think they’re healthier than one pack of plain old Tayto like *ahem* me….), El Paso Taco / Tortilla packs (these are expensive, so I will be availing of this offer to stock the pantry!), and McVitie and Nature Valley cereal bars.
The usual 3 for €4 fruit and veg offer applies, and includes, in a direct challenge to Aldi’s 79c bargains, mango and pineapple this week. The booze offerings include ‘half price’ French Premier Cru Champagne at €19.99 (previously €49.99, this doesn’t make it half price by my maths, but who’s counting) and a nice Castillo San Lorenzo Rioja at €7.99, which is a very nice drop indeed.
